°®°®Ö±²„ announces campus holiday energy conservation planĀ

°®°®Ö±²„ will implement its holiday energy conservation plan at the end ofĀ the workday today [Dec. 19].

The Christmas break affords us the opportunity to reduce energy consumptionĀ and realize significant savings on operating expenditures. Efforts overĀ the years to turn off unused equipment and lighting are absolutely critical to aĀ successful holiday shutdown. Please join with us in reducing energy use during this time.

For those that come into work at times during the break, pleaseĀ turn offĀ computers, lights, radios and any other energy-consuming devices when youĀ leave. If you have trouble locating any switches, contact Facilities ManagementĀ at 662-325-2005.

Remember toĀ check devices and equipment in out-of-the-way placesĀ and common areas, which may include classrooms, restrooms, storage closets,Ā lobbies and lounges.

Building managers and building operators shouldĀ ensureĀ that all interior and exterior lights are turned off.

Additionally, allĀ responsible parties shouldĀ be aware of exposed piping that could be subject toĀ freezingĀ during the shut-back period.Ā  Please notify your building manager orĀ building operator if you see any area that needs to be protected. ContactĀ Facilities Management at 325-2005 with any building issues if discovered andĀ perceived urgent.Ā Ā

Heating and cooling settingsĀ for holiday breaks should be addressed by theĀ appropriate facility personnel. Some buildings are centrally controlled byĀ Facilities Management, which will implement the appropriate temperatureĀ setbacks. In the remaining areas, the building operator should set theĀ thermostat to the minimum setting, making sure that the system is not in coolingĀ mode.Ā

Buildings with centrally controlled temperature settings include: University Academic Advising Center, J. Charles Lee Agricultural and Biological Engineering Building, Allen Hall,Ā Animal and Dairy Sciences, Ballew Hall, Kent Sills Band Hall, Bost Extension Center, Bowen Hall, Hand Chemical Lab, Herzer Dairy Science Building,Ā Herzer Sales Store and Processing, Briscoe Hall, CAVS, Chapel of Memories, Carpenter Hall,Ā Center for America's Veterans, Clay Lyle Entomology Complex, Dorman Hall, Etheredge Hall, University Florist, ForestĀ Products Building 1, Freeman Hall, Fresh Food Co. dining facility, Garner Hall, Giles Hall, Harned Hall and Harned Annex, George Hall, Hilbun Hall, Howell Building, Hill (former poultry science building), HunterĀ Henry Center, Industrial Education Building, ICET, Landscape Architecture Facility, Lee Hall, Lloyd-Ricks-Watson Building,Ā McCarthy Gym, McComas Hall, McArthur Hall, McCain Engineering Building, McCool Hall, Magruder Hall, Meat Science Laboratory,Ā Memorial Hall, Mitchell Memorial Library, Middleton Hall, Montgomery Hall, Moore Hall, Music Facility, Old MainĀ Academic Center, Pace Seed Technology Building, Patterson Engineering Building, Perry Cafeteria, Poultry Science Building, RaspetĀ Buildings 1 and 2, Richard A. Rula Engineering and Science Complex, Sanderson Center,Ā Scales Building, Simrall Electrical Engineering Building, SIMS/HPCC, Stafford Hall, Colvard Student Union, Swalm Chemical Engineering Building, Thompson Hall, T.K.Ā Martin Center and YMCA Building.

IfĀ you have questions or concerns about the temperature setbacks in your building,Ā please contact Facilities Management at 325-2005.Ā  As these building setpointsĀ are centrally managed by Facilities Management, no individual actions should beĀ taken with regard to temperature settings.

Note thatĀ all athletics facility setbacks will be coordinated by AthleticsĀ personnel, andĀ all student housing setbacks will be coordinated by HousingĀ personnel. In all other buildings, building operators should set the thermostatĀ to the minimum setting, making sure that the system is not in cooling mode.

Thank you for your continuing efforts to enhance our energy conservationĀ efforts.Ā

IfĀ you have any specific concerns related to the holiday energy plan, pleaseĀ contact Facilities Management at 662-325-2005.
