°®°®Ö±²„ students, alumna take home five awards in statewide art competition

STARKVILLE, Miss.āNearly 50 works by 24 current Mississippi State art majors and one alumna are on display through March 18 at The Arts Center of Mississippi in Jackson.
Now in its 66th year, the Mississippi Collegiate Arts exhibit is part of statewide juried competition for student artists enrolled in the stateās four-year colleges and universities. The annual event is designed to showcase the high quality of visual arts education taking place in Mississippi higher education.
This yearās contest drew more than 930 submissions from nearly a dozen institutions. Of that number, 46 entries by °®°®Ö±²„ art majors were among 138 judged worthy of inclusion in the exhibit.
Richard Doubleday, assistant professor in the graphic design program at Louisiana State Universityās School of Art, was juror for the 2016 MCA competition. He selected five °®°®Ö±²„ student works for Jurorās Awards, one each in the Painting, Sculpture, Drawing, Graphic Design and Time Based Media categories.
